As 2017 begins, we are excited for all that we have planned. In reflection of all our accomplishments in 2016, our primary goals for the new year include growing our commitment to our community risk reduction programs and continuing to advocate for resources to meet the demand of our ever growing community that we are proud to call home.
We are eager to implement our "Above All Don't Fall" campaign in response to the approximately 15 percent of calls received by the Henderson Fire Department concerning falls. Among older adults, falls are the leading cause of injury deaths, unintentional injuries, and hospital admissions for trauma. Falls take a serious toll on older adults' quality of life and independence. Through practical lifestyle adjustments, evidence-based falls prevention programs, and clinical-community partnerships, the number of falls among seniors can be substantially reduced.
Over the past years, Henderson Professional Fire Fighters has worked together with the American Red Cross for the annual "Fire Hurts...Red Cross Helps" campaign. This campaign provides assistance to victims who have been displaced from their homes due to fires. We look forward to continue our fundraising efforts for this organization and the community.
Throughout the remainder of the year, we will be continuing our safety campaigns such as "Safe Pools Rule!" and "Check your Seats in the Heat," in partnership with the community, to raise awareness, and ultimately save lives. With these programs, we look to educate our community on the steps that everyone can take to prevent deaths that are all too common when the temperatures rise in the summer and pool safety becomes a top priority.
We look forward to seeing you in our community this year. By working together in education and grassroots efforts we can make our city a safer place for everyone.
