As we have for over 50 years, the Henderson Professional Fire Fighters will be supporting the annual M.D.A. Boot Drive. We proudly stand for those who cannot and look forward to seeing you in our community as we fill the boot for those who suffer from Muscular Dystrophy. Our annual M.D.A. Pancake Breakfast will be held March 26 to kick off the boot drive, and our Healthy Children Fair will take place in April.
Drowning still remains a leading cause of unintentional death in Southern Nevada for young children and an average of eight children die every year. With the "Be Water Safe" Drowning Prevention Summer Education Series, we reached over 6,000 homes last year alone, personally educating Henderson families on the A, B, C and D's of drowning prevention. This year, our goal is to expand our reach by empowering people in the community to actively participate in our outreach efforts.
We hope to surpass that number this year. Along with our door-to-door campaign, we will continue to hold educational presentations at local recreation and senior centers, and also air our public service announcement (see video below). This year, we will also be taking our outreach campaigns a step further, as we have already begun visiting PTA groups at Henderson elementary schools to spread our messages to the parents.
Nationally, 30 children die per year from being left in a hot vehicle. With our "heck Your Seats in the Heat" campaign, we have raised awareness about not leaving children, the elderly or pets in hot vehicles. We launched the campaign last July and continued our outreach efforts by distributing awareness ribbons at Henderson Smiths' locations, and posters throughout our community. This July, we will launch it again and also air our public service announcement (see video below).
This year, our community will see us more than ever before, knocking on doors, through our P.S.A.s and visiting local organizations. As members of the Henderson Professional Fire Fighters Association, we are proud to make Henderson our home and a premiere community.
